Town invites residents to attend comprehensive plan meeting today at JCC North

Town Supervisor Richard Purol invited Dunkirk residents to participate in an upcoming public meeting to discuss the new Comprehensive Plan currently in development. Scheduled for today at the Jamestown Community College’s North County Center at 7 p.m., the meeting will include an informational presentation on the planning process and the many ways in which residents can take part.

“We hope every town of Dunkirk resident can participate in the Comprehensive Plan process,” said Supervisor Purol.

“Many opportunities for involvement have been created,” he continued, “and the input of community members is vital to a successful plan.”

Residents will be asked to participate in initial focus groups, then large group discussions called charrettes, and finally via formal public hearings to provide input and feedback once the draft document has been created. A Steering Committee led by the Town Planning Board and Chairman Vince Vecchiarella will oversee the entire process.

Interested residents can learn more about upcoming meetings and follow the plan’s progress by visiting the website created specifically for the plan, at (the official website).

“The website is a convenient way to communicate with the Steering Committee,” Purol added, noting that a contact form is located there. The site also provides a progress thermometer to follow the process.

“Please visit the website often for updates and to stay informed. We want everyone to be involved,” Purol said.

The planning process is expected to take several months, culminating in a document which is formally adopted by the Town Board. The project is being guided by a joint team from MRB Group and EDR, engineering firms with expertise in community planning. The meeting will provide an overview of the plan process, highlight opportunities for public involvement, and encourage participation in upcoming focus groups and workshops. The Jamestown Community College North County Center is located at 10807 Bennett Road, in Dunkirk.
