Animals removed from illegal facility

An American black bear, a cougar and a serval were removed from an allegedly illegal animal facility Wednesday afternoon in the town of Pomfret.

According to an email sent to the OBSERVER by Charsleissa King, spokeswoman for the New York State Department of Environmental Conserva-tion, officials seized the animals located at the All Living Things facility on Webster Road, which was operated by Wayde Forster, pursuant to a search warrant.

“The transfer of these wild animals is not only in the best interests of the animals, but public safety, as well,” King wrote in her email.

The Lions, Tigers & Bears Animal Rescue is working with the DEC to secure the animals and transport them to a new home in San Diego, Calif.

“Veterinarians will ensure that the animals are healthy and transferred safely to the transport truck for travel,” King stated.
