Gazebo Concert Series to begin 2014 season tonight
CHERRY CREEK – The Cherry Creek Community Association Inc. has announced the schedule of bands that will be appearing as the 2014 Gazebo Concert Series begin tonight at 6:30. This year’s theme is “Arts in the Garden” and will attempt to bring the three mediums of visual, musical arts and the of self-expression through the movement of dance, together.
A cement pad has been newly installed to provide a place for round and square dancing, and art supplies for the various art projects will be available for those wishing to participate. As in the past, all concerts will take place in the gazebo of the Memorial Park on Main Street, behind the town hall. Supper-type refreshments will be available, and concert attendees are reminded to bring their own lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held at the Main Street Ballpark Pavilion, which is a change from years past.
The season begins tonight with The Cassadaga Area Band, a group playing show tunes, marches and music in the “big band” style reminiscent of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey.
An art project will be featured for those wishing to participate at this concert.
July 3 will see “23 Skiddoo” playing patriotic and “sing along” style music, again with a featured art project.
July 10 celebrates the bluegrass flavor of early country music with the sounds of Old Dawg Bluegrass, who will entertain concert-goers with traditional bluegrass music. An art project will be featured.
July 17 features local favorite Maurice Brown and The Mountain Railroad, playing Southern gospel favorites and old-time country music. An art project will be a featured accompaniment to this concert.
July 24, the swing sounds and big band music of Chautauqua Big Band Swing come to the gazebo, and the new dancing area will be featured as concert goers will be encouraged to dance in whatever style they choose.
Square dancing comes to the park July 31, with the music of Paul Zittel and Pure Country, with both round and square dancing for concert goers.
Aug. 7 will feature the ’50s and ’60s music of the group, Loose Change. This will be a sock hop, so those planning to attending may add to the evening’s festivities by dressing ’50s style poodle skirts and bluejeans and the like.
The series concludes Aug. 14 with Slim Griffin and the Country Gentlemen. This evening’s festivities begin with a community picnic at 6 p.m., and will be held at the Main Street Ball Park Pavilion. Those who plan to attend are requested to bring a dish to pass and their own table service. Beverage will be provided. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will also be an art show of the projects completed at the summer’s earlier concerts.
The 2014 Cherry Creek Summer Gazebo Concert Series is sponsored by the Cherry Creek Community Association Inc., and funded in part by the New York State Council On The Arts Decentralization Program administered by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council, area businesses, the town and village of Cherry Creek and community members.
