Cherry Creek celebrates Independence Day early
CHERRY CREEK – The village of Cherry Creek is pleased to announce its 2014 Independence Day Celebration, scheduled for June 27, 28, and 29. Village-wide yard sales are planned for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Maps are available at Mendle’s Crossroads Grocery. All other activities will be at the Main Street Ballpark unless otherwise noted.
Friday, June 27 will feature crafters, food, a beer and wine tent, games, vendors, and a raffle. At 5 p.m., registration will be held for the Classic Car Cruise-In with motorcycle category. The cruise-in, with an additional motorcycle category, will take place from 6 – 8 p.m. Music will be provided by “The Kokomo Time Band.” Live acoustic music is planned for 8 – 11 p.m.
On Saturday, June 28, in addition to the vendors mentioned above, Titan Entertainment will offer rides from 2-10 p.m. At noon, parade participants will line up on Southside Avenue. Noon is also the time for the Pie Contest drop-off. The parade will march down Main Street at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m., patrons can purchase a chicken barbecue sponsored by the Cherry Creek Fire Dept. and Auxiliary. The Little Mr. & Mrs. Cherry Creek Contest is scheduled for 2:30. A live auction will begin at 3:45, with proceeds to go to events sponsored by CCCA. A new event is scheduled for 5 p.m. “Red Neck Games for All Ages” will include a mattress race, red neck basketball, sock-it or croquet, 3 legged race, sack races, egg toss, and red neck shake, rattle and roll. At 6:30, “the Midnight Drifters” will perform, followed by music by “Uncle Ben’s Remedy” from 7 to 10 p.m. The raffle drawing is set for 8:30 p.m. The evening concludes with fantastic fireworks at 10 p.m.
On Sunday, a Community Worship Service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. All are welcome.
