Carolyn (Provenzo) Corsoro
The gates of heaven have opened for Carolyn to reunite with the love of her life, Anthony Corsoro.
Carolyn, 88, died peacefully on June 24, 2014 in Absolut at Westfield. She was born in Silver Creek on Feb. 24, 1926 to the late Cosimina Provenzo.
To know her was to love her and she would greet everyone with a smile or blow a kiss.
Carolyn began her life as a homemaker and in 1960 joined the Dunkirk Police Department as Dunkirk’s first crossing guard and later became a matron for the jail.
She was president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Frank Acquavia American Legion Post and a member of the Women of the Moose and the Columbus Club.
Carolyn loved bowling and growing gladioli, but her specialty was her cooking. She would cook food for anyone who would drop by and was best known for her spaghetti sauce.
Carolyn’s last years were spent in Absolut at West-field. She loved her nurses and caregivers and she made many friends there. She was also crowned “Ms. Absolut” in 2012.
The most important thing in her life was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all brought so much joy to her life.
Survivors include a son, James (Madalene) Corsoro of Oklahoma City, OK and daughters Toni Corsoro of Westfield, NY, Karen (Corsoro) Leone of Fredonia, NY and Diane (Joseph) Castellana of Fort Wayne, IN. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Rooks, Anthony Corsoro, Joseph Castellana, Jamie Carter, William Catania, Carri Knapp, Rusty, Mara and Anthony Leone. Her great-grandchildren include Will and Allysa Rooks, Rachel and Christopher Corsoro, Nick and Ryan Castellana, Matthew and Christopher and Jenna Catania, and Madelyn and Claire Knapp. She is further survived by a sister, Angeline Owen, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Anthony, who died Dec. 25, 1999 and her mother, Cosimina Provenzo on January 11, 1984, she was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher Provenzo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk, NY with the Revs. Joseph Zalacca and Joseph Porpiglia as con-celebrants.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass and may call at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 East Main St., Fredonia, NY today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Sheridan, NY.
