Rose Marie (Gelacak) Schrantz

Rose Marie (Gelacak) Schrantz, 75, of Fredonia, N.Y. (formerly of Dunkirk) passed away unexpectedly June 26, 2014 at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. All four of her children were by her side.

Known to many as Rose, Ro-Ro-Grama “Rosie,” she was born in Gowanda, N.Y., May 7, 1939 to the late Michael and Caroline (Smagacz) Gelacak.

Rose worked many jobs in her lifetime, but after her children’s graduations, pursued her career in nursing through the BOCES Pro-gram, becoming an LPN. She worked for the WNYDDSO, retiring from the Matteson Street home in Fredonia after 17 years.

Rose Marie had a passion for reading. She was a very intelligent and compassionate woman, who would share her knowledge and wisdom with anyone that asked or needed advice. Rose Marie loved to travel and go on her senior citizens trips, casino trips and many luncheons and dinners. She will be missed dearly by her very close friends, whom she adored and traveled with, Joyce Kleinsmith, Barbara Badjas and Patricia Gloss.

Rose Marie is survived by her four children, who she treasured; three sons, John (Karla) Schrantz of Williamsville, N.Y., Jason (Jennifer) Schrantz of Fredo-nia, N.Y., and Joel (Lisa) Schrantz of Silver Creek, N.Y.; and her beloved best friend and daughter, Rebecca (Schrantz) Dyckes of Dunkirk. Also survived by six grandchildren, Ashleigh (Drew) Brown, twins – Courtney and Cassandra Schrantz, Nicholas Schrantz, Dylan Oyer and Lindsay Schrantz; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Riley Suarez, Elliot Ann Brown and Coleman Robert Brown; a brother, Michael (Joyce) Gelacak of Haymarket, Va.; three nieces and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and one infant son.

Also, per Rose Marie’s wishes, her body was donated to research, as she believed tremendously in helping others. There will be a private memorial/celebration of Rose’s life at the family’s convenience.

The family asks everyone to remember their mother with smiles and laughter, because that is how she will remember you all. She will always live on in the hearts of her children, John, Rebecca, Jason and Joel.
