Ripley officials show off new location to community
RIPLEY – Close to 100 Ripley residents took a closer look at what their new town hall has to offer during a recent open house.
“It was a fun day for those that came. We took turns giving tours,” said town Clerk Rebecca Rowe Carvallo. “Most of them were very happy to see the space we have here. They knew the problems we were having at the old town hall.”
Board Council member Robert McIntosh added that visitors were impressed by the services available. “We had a lot of positive comments on the handicap accessibility,” he said.
The former town hall on Park Street required visitors to traverse three steps to visit the offices or to negotiate a rough ramp to reach the town court and meeting room.
The old hall had several structural problems as well. Town council considered several options before leasing and renovating space from Ripley Central School.
Visitors to the open house enjoyed hot dogs, cake and snacks as they wandered through the new offices. Carvallo said somewhere between 75-100 people toured the facilities and the reaction was very favorable.
“Everyone really liked it,” she said. “I think some were very surprised at how nice it is. They didn’t know what to expect.”
