A ceremony to say thanks

It is a special occasion for Dunkirk to say thanks.

At 5:30 this afternoon, the city Chamber of Commerce is holding a ceremony for Peter Wolf Toth, who is in town working on the Whispering Giant statue between Tim Hortons and the Clarion. While his work is expected to take less than a month, Toth has been a part of Dunkirk for more than four decades. That is when he first created the statue, which was previously at Washington Park.

Thanks to the chamber, specifically Gina Kron at Tim Hortons, Toth is here again – from Florida – working on the statue.

“We want him to meet some of the people who saw him work on the statue many years ago,” said David Kleparek, community chamber coordinator.

City Mayor Anthony J. Dolce and County Executive Vince Horrigan are expected to be in attendance for the gathering, which takes place at the Dockside Cafe of the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center on Route 5.
