Olivia’s Wish awards scholarships to 11 area students
The Olivia’s 5K Wish Run/Walk and the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation released the names of the 11 Olivia Coia Memorial Scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year. The family and friends of Olivia Coia wish to congratulate all the winners, thank all of the students who applied, and wish the students success in their futures.
This year’s $500 scholarships were awarded as follows: Fredonia High School: Daniel Cross and Skyler Salim; Dunkirk High School: Taylor Tilley; Brocton Central School: Morgan Bennett; Pine Valley Central School: Thomas Raiport; Cassadaga Valley Central School: Emily G. Marsh; Forestville Central School: Elizabeth Gilman; Lake Shore Central School: Salihah Sikes; Gowanda Central: Sarah Grubbs; Silver Creek Central: Savannah Granata; and Silver Creek $1,000 winner: Emily Hartford.
Thanks is also extended to all of the sponsors over the past three years, for support and donations of money, post party food, beverages, or in kind gifts for the silent auction, making banners for the event, the amazing car wrap displaying the Olivia’s 5 K Run/Walk, the local radio, newspapers, and T-shirts. All these groups and individuals united to support the family and friends, and Olivia’s last wishes.
The event grew from awarding one local scholarship in 2012, to awarding seven in 2013, and now to eleven in 2014.
In the past three years, the group has raised and donated $25,000 to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for Dr. Eric P. Winer to help with Triple Negative Breast Cancer Research (TNBC).
The organizers also wish to thank the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation staff and volunteers. Without their support, the group could not have fulfilled Olivia’s last request.
The community is invited to support the 4th Annual Olivia’s 5 K Wish Run/Walk on Oct. 5, 2014.
