Robert E. Lefferts

Robert Edward “Bob” Lefferts, age 70, of Fredo-nia, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at home on Wednesday, July 9, 2014.

A life-long resident of the Dunkirk-Fredonia area, Bob was born May 29, 1944 in Olean, N.Y., to the late Edward E. and Madalyn (Henneman) Lefferts. Bob’s birth delayed his father’s military deployment in WWII shortly before the D-Day invasion. Bob married his loving wife Patricia W. Lefferts on July 29, 1977. The couple would have celebrated their 38th anniversary this month.

Bob was a 1962 graduate of Cardinal Mindszenty High School. He attended SUNY Fredonia before beginning employment at Kraft Foods. He also worked for Chautauqua & Erie Telephone Company for 11 years and retired from Niagara Mohawk/ National Grid on June 1, 2004. During his retirement, Bob worked season-ally maintaining local cemeteries for the Town of Pomfret.

Bob served in the National Guard from 1964 to 1970 and was a member of the Fredonia Fire Police for 44 years, starting in 1970, and previously served as Company Line Officer.

Bob had a lifelong interest in automobiles and had a particular interest in restoring antique and classic cars, having proudly restored a 1931 Model A Ford. He also loved jazz music, especially piano jazz and the music of Dave Brubick. His other interests included snowmobiling and motorcycling.

Bob and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Largo, FL. Bob was a very loving father and took great joy in his family. He was always there for his children when they needed them.

Besides his wife, Bob is survived by his son, Robert W. Lefferts of Hemet, Calif.; a daughter Sheri (Michael) McCoy of Matthews, N.C.; two sisters, Mary Lou Vercant of Fredonia and Kathryn (Todd) Wickmark of Fredonia; and three sisters-in-law, Marcia Johnson, Susan Westling and Karen Westling; two grandchildren, Casey and Taylor McCoy; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Michelle L. Gelsimino; brother William D. Lefferts; brother-in-law David S. Vercant; brother-in-law Donald Westling; and parents-in-law Donald and Josephine Westling.

Friends may call at LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, NY today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church, 39 Matteson Ave., Fredonia. Online condolences may be sent to
