Shults Auto Group, Jamestown Plastics help veteran in need
WESTFIELD – Sergeant Gus Dominguez and his friend, Erick, bought a 2000 Honda Civic together while they were in basic training. Prior to shipping out to Afghanistan, Gus and Erick made a pact: if one of them didn’t make it home, the other would restore the car and keep it on the road. Erick was killed on duty after his truck hit an improvised explosive device; Gus later returned home with the intention of keeping his promise to Erick.
Gus’ 2000 Honda Civic broke down in Westfield on May 28 and needed transportation to Ranger school in Washington. Gus purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu from David See of Shults of Westfield. See refused to accept the old Honda as a trade-in when he heard the story behind it. In addition, See decided that he wanted to help Gus transport the 2000 Honda Civic back to Dominguez’s mother’s home in California.
Shults of Westfield, along with the Shults Heroes Campaign, and Jamestown Plastics combined forces and raised the money necessary to haul the Honda back to California, ensuring that Gus’ promise to Erick lives on.
Gus represents the typical servicemen and women that serve our country without asking for anything in return. He was polite and appreciative and did not expect any special favors. Shults Auto Group promised to keep in touch and he is now part of a bigger family.
