Dunkirk: Small theft, loud return

Community involvement has helped solve a crime.

Last week, only one day after using it, Dunkirk Little League lost its new speaker system after its facility had been broken into. The system, which cost more than $1,000, was being used for the League’s hosting of a state tournament.

A tip from a community member led to the arrest of five individuals, who really did a dumb and inconsiderate act.

Those five were taken to jail … and those who are of age, have had their names and faces put in the eye of the public. For the five, the event did not go quietly. In fact, it was almost as if it had been put over a public-address system.

It is another example of when the public does step forward, it can help area police agencies make a difference in fighting crime.
