Worship through music
Praise on the Lake will be held Sunday at 9 a.m. on the Floating Stage in Bemus Point. This is a contemporary worship service with a meaningful message and an inspiring outdoor worship experience for all. The Bemus Point United Methodist Church is sponsoring the event. The Ellington Community Church invites the public to a Gospel concert featuring the “Higher Ground Trio” with Bucky Young and Conrad and Sylvia Mighells on Sunday at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served following the concert. The church is located at 5009 Thornton Road and is handicapped accessible.
Tri-Church Parish in Brocton, welcomes Pastor Barbara Brewer into new leadership with its congregation. Pastor Brewer formerly served a congregation in Alden, N.Y. Brewer completed her seminary studies this spring and has returned from a recent trip to the Holy Land. She is residing in the parsonage on Main Street and looks forward to meeting neighbors as she explores her new community. Sunday Worship continues to be offered at 10 a.m. in St. Dominic R.C. Church sanctuary at 2 Central Avenue in Brocton.
David and Sandra Ball are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They invite family and friends to stop over to an open house on Aug. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fellowship Christian Church at 148 W. Main St., Brocton. The couple wants those attending to know that they welcome cards, but are declining gifts.
The Fredonia Presbyterian Church at 219 Central Ave. will distribute food through its Food Pantry program today from 10 a.m. to noon. All visitors will receive a bag of non-perishable food items. Community and beyond are welcome. For details, contact Cynthia Wickwire at 679-1501.
The Apostolic House of Prayer #2 at 212 Park Ave, Dunkirk will have a clothes give-away on from noon until 3 p.m. on the following Saturdays: July 26, Aug. 2, and Aug. 9
A Silver Creek community block party is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 32 Main St., Silver Creek. Free hot dogs, hamburgers and games for all ages with fabulous prizes will be offered. Guests can learn about the Church and the AWANA Club program, a children’s ministry for ages 3 through 5th grade.
The Mayville Community Bible Church, 41 N. Erie St., Mayville, invites youth grades K-5 to participate in a weekend vacation Bible school experience.

After visiting the Fredonia Farmers Market and the Fredonia History Days activities in the Park today the public is welcome to stop by Garland Hall, behind Trinity Episcopal Church at 11 Day St. Fredonia. Once again the Trinity Episcopal Church Women will offer over 20 different salads (not just lettuce and carrots) for you to enjoy. For only $7, fill your plate (refills extra no take outs of leftovers). You may take your entire choice with you as a take-out lunch, or dine in air-conditioned comfort, seated at small tables set with linen table cloths, real flower centerpieces, china plates, and choice of water or fresh made lemonade and a roll. Relax and chat before you heading back out to enjoy the Fredonia History Days activities in the park.
Tickets for this event will be sold beginning at 11 a.m. in front of the church until 1:30 p.m. Lunch begins at noon and ends at 2 p.m. or when sold out. Money raised from the event goes to operating expenses for the Rural Ministry, the Friendly Kitchen and other local needs.
St. John’s United Church of Christ, 733 Central Ave. Dunkirk, is sponsoring a “Freedomfest” event today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu includes 1 hot dog, 1 hamburger, macaroni salad, backyard beans, cole slaw, watermelon, dessert, and beverages. Presale tickets are $7.50, or tickets can be purchased at the door for $8. Phone 366-0710 for reservations.
Today beginning at 11 a.m., Holy Trinity Parish, 1032 Central Ave., Dunkirk will hold its first Summerfest experience behind Holy Trinity church
In the afternoon, for kids of all ages, there will be a variety of carnival games and activities There will also be basket raffles, a DJ playing music, 50/50s, and a great selection of festival foods – including fresh-cut curly fries, homemade sugar waffles, fresh-squeezed lemonade, hot dogs, sausage, ice cream, popcorn, baked goods. For $10 a meal, Weidner’s chicken barbecue will be serving from 4 to 7 p.m.
Also in the evening there will be a beer and wine tent and live music. Starting at 4 p.m., beer and wine will be served (from its own concession stand). From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., the band Kokomo Time will be performing. Kokomo Time is a cover band that plays upbeat, family-friendly beach-style party music from their repertoire of over 150 songs.
Food and sales
Trinity Lutheran Church will join in the excitement of the Silver Creek village-wide yard sales on Saturday, Aug. 2. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the parish hall will have an assortment of useful household items, books, seasonal items and costume jewelry for sale.
In conjunction with this sale, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the men of the church will demonstrate their expertise at the grill offering hot dogs or a bag luncheon special which includes a hot dog, bottle of water, package of cookies and a bag of chips for $3.
Fifty percent of the yard sale proceeds and 100 percent of the hot dog profits will be donated to the Irving Fire Department. It is a tradition that one of the five membership area fire departments benefit from Trinity’s only fundraiser each year.
Trinity Lutheran Church is located at 15 Porter Avenue in Silver Creek.
A fall outside flea market and pig roast is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cherry Creek/Leon United Methodist Church on Main Street in Cherry Creek. The pig roast will feature two sides, dessert and beverage for $9 from 11 a.m. until sold out. There will be a basket silent auction.

All proceeds from the pig roast, basket auction, and spot rental benefit the church fuel bill.
