Prescription discount card program saves Cattaraugus County more than $300K
LITTLE VALLEY – In May 2012, Cattaraugus County and ProAct implemented a free prescription discount card program for all county residents. Over the course of two years, Cattaraugus County residents have achieved a combined savings of over $300,000 on nearly 5,400 prescriptions filled.
Cattaraugus County is one of 50 counties in New York that have endorsed the ProAct administered program to provide lower-cost prescriptions for their residents. There are no enrollment forms or application fees to utilize the program.
Every resident within the county is eligible to participate regardless of age, income, or existing health care coverage, and every prescription qualifies to receive some level of discount.
The card is completely anonymous and has already been activated for residents’ convenience. In order to receive the savings associated with the program, one must present the discount card along with their prescription at a participating pharmacy.
The goal is to be sure that county residents no longer have to pay the full cash price for their prescription medications when they have no other coverage. The ProAct prescription discount card program plays a key role in helping residents gain access to affordable prescriptions. Residents who utilize the program can expect to see savings ranging from 10-20 percent off brand name medications and 20-70 percent off generic medications.
There are over 65,000 participating pharmacies nationwide who accept the ProAct prescription discount card. To find the nearest participating pharmacy to you, visit www.NYRxDiscountCard.com or call the ProAct help desk toll free at 1-877-776-2285.
There are no restrictions on card usage and every resident is encouraged to carry a card to avoid paying the full cash price for any of their medications.
If a resident has lost their card or needs an additional card, a supply is available at the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging/NY Connects office or at any participating pharmacy in the county.
