Cassadaga Beach fun hits a snag
CASSADAGA – Summer fun at the Cassadaga Beach has hit a bit of a snag.
“Our sand is gone,” Cassadaga Beach Director TammieAnn Wichlacz said. “It is all in the water. We had two kids cut themselves on the stones. There is nothing we can do about it; impossible to pick up all the stones.”
“I cried. All my sand is gone,” Wichlacz continued. “I have been going to the beach for 9 years and this is the worst year ever.”
Several upcoming events are turning those frowns upside down – July 28, Tye Dye; July 31, Jello Eating Contest; Aug. 1 and 2, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sleep Over for swimming lesson children only, Aug. 15, 5 p.m., Carnival, finally ending with Fun Water Week, Aug. 16-22, open swim all day.
“We have a great staff this year. They are wonderful,” Wichlacz said. “Thank you again for letting me be director.”
Wichlacz wants to order T- shirts and hoodies for the staff.
“They will buy the hoodies themselves to wear to school,” she said. “They want to show off that they worked at the beach over the summer.”
The Carnival was approved by the board to be a week earlier than normal.
“We didn’t want to have to rush,” Wichlacz said. “We want a week of fun and to take our time cleaning the beach. This will cut down on the mold for next year.”
