Festival time in Forestville at St. Rose of Lima lawn fete on Aug. 3

The annual St Rose of Lima lawn fete and chicken barbecue will kick off at noon this year on Sunday, Aug. 3 on the church grounds at 11 Center Street, Forestville.

The theme this year is “Disney.” The fun always begins long before the actual day, thinking of costumes, food and prizes. Word has it that many Mickey and Minnie “wanna-bes” will be there with perhaps a princess or a Dalmatian in the crowd. All who come are welcome to dress in Disney character.

Dinner this year consists of Chiavetta’s famous BBQ Chicken with homemade macaroni salad, boiled buttery potatoes, bread and butter with beverage and brownies for dessert. The cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children. Diners can enjoy the meal in an air-conditioned hall or under a comfortable tent outside close to the music and festivities. Take-outs are also available.

Hamburgers, hotdogs, French fries, sweet potato fires and fried dough will be available outside at the refreshment stand along with pop including root beer and cherry. Popcorn will be available in the beer and wine tent.

Children can enjoy the kids’ games, pony rides and a bounce house. For the adult kids, the festival offers pull tabs, Indian dice, a pan game and the big raffle with over 100 gifts. A 50/50 will be held and a barrel of cheer also be raffled. The St. Rose Society has purchased a John Deere Kid’s Gator for an additional raffle. The gift basket booth features over 50 large baskets jam packed with giftware and goodies. The parish’s artisans are hard at work creating one-of-a-kind items including hand-painted chairs and desks for a silent auction. The Wheel of Sweets game and bakery will be filled with home-baked pies, cakes and other baked goods. Visitors can play the wheel and take a chance or can purchase something good to eat. Bon Appetit is a new booth this year filled with wines, coffees, teas and gourmet items

A favorite of the crowd is the music of the Kokomo Band and the MC Musik CO. Come early and stay for the day. Enjoy the music, play some games and meet your friends perhaps make new ones. Bring your own comfy chair or use those on site. All drawings will begin at 6 pm.

The trash and treasure sale in front of the church hall, will be open on Friday and Saturday from 9-12 noon and continue all day Sunday.
