WCA Hospital earns distinguished American College of Radiology accreditation
JAMESTOWN – WCA Hospital officials announ-ced the hospital has been awarded a three-year term of reaccreditation in Posi-tron Emission Tomography as the result of an extensive review by the American College of Radiology.
A positron emission tomography or more commonly called PET Scan or PET imaging, is a diagnostic test that helps reveal how tissues and organs function.
A PET scan is useful in revealing or evaluating several conditions including cancers disorders.
“The ACR accreditation demonstrates our continued pledge to build the strongest medical community possible,” said Betsy Wright, FACHE, WCA Hospital President/CEO. “Accreditation by the American College of Radiology inspires a high level of confidence for our patients, referring physicians and managed care organizations, and assures them that only the highest quality of care is being provided at WCA.”
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards, following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
PET and PET/CT services are part of the comprehensive array of diagnostic and health services available at the Center For Imaging and Medical Arts at WCA – designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology’s Commission on Breast Imaging.
Services include breast patient navigation, breast and general ultrasound, interventional radiology, CT Imaging, MRI and MRI Breast imaging, OPEN MRI exam, nuclear medicine, bone densitometry screening, screening and diagnostic mammography with same day results, Stereotactic and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy and outpatient laboratory.
To schedule a PET exam, call 664-8440. A physician order is required.
