Pine Valley appoints interim superintendent

SOUTH DAYTON – With the departure of its superintendent, the Pine Valley Central School District has named an interim superintendent. David Kurzawa has been appointed as interim superintendent effective Aug. 1.

Kurzawa will serve as interim superintendent while the district searches for a permanent superintendent. Superintendent Pete Morgante’s retirement was approved by the Board of Education in June.

“The school board looks forward to working with David, whose extensive experience will be valuable as we prepare for this coming school year and as we also provide Pine Valley with a solid footing for the future,” Board of Education President Rex Butcher said.

Kurzawa, a retired superintendent, previously held several superintendent and interim superintendent positions for several schools, including the Silver Creek Central School District. He was most recently at Silver Creek in early 2012 following the resignation of Superintendent David O’Rourke.

Pine Valley will conduct a search for a superintendent over the course of the next few months. The district previously appointed O’Rourke, BOCES superintendent, to serve as a search consultant.
