Tuesday rains lead to good weather today

Rains and thunderstorms came suddenly Tuesday, but many areas came through unscathed.

According to Silver Creek Mayor Nick Piccolo, the village’s stormwater system did its job and kept water levels on streets down, unlike Saturday. He said efforts were made to keep Parkway Street residents’ homes dry after damage incurred from Saturday’s rains.

One home, on Center Road in Sheridan, was struck by lightning, resulting in minimal damage and no fire.

Meteorologist Jim Mitchell from the National Weather Service in Buffalo said there was no flooding in Chautauqua County and only one report of a road flooded in Cattaraugus County in East Otto.

Mitchell reported Tuesday’s storms will usher in beautiful weather today.

“It will be the dryest day we have had in a while. We are due. There will be fog in the morning, especially in the valleys, becoming sunny with highs in the low 70s, low humidity and light winds. It should be a great day,” he said.
