WACS gains a new NCCF scholarship

NCCF is pleased to announce the establishment of the Steve and Helen Baran Scholarship Fund. Helen and the late Steve Baran established this scholarship to benefit a senior student living within the Town or Village of Westfield. The couple was honored in 2012 with the NCCF George B. Weaver Jr. Footprints Award for their numerous contributions in Chautauqua County.

Generous supporters of Chautauqua County, the Barans have owned and operated Baran Vineyards in Westfield for over 50 years. Both have worked tirelessly in the promotion of the grape industry including financial support of the Grape Discovery Center in Westfield. The couple has also served on the boards of the Growers Cooperative Juice Company, Inc., the Chautauqua County Farmland Protection Board, the Concord Grape Belt Heritage Association, and Westfield Memorial Hospital.

To celebrate the culture of Westfield, the Steve and Helen Baran Scholarship is set up for a graduating senior pursuing a two-year degree in a field related to agriculture or health care. The deserving student is one who is in the middle of his/her class academically. The Westfield Academy and Central School scholarship committee will make the selection based on the specified criteria. For additional information on this scholarship or to apply next spring, contact the Westfield Academy and Central School’s guidance department.

The NCCF was incorporated in 1986 as a tax-exempt charitable organization. Since its establishment, the NCCF has distributed more than $9.5 million in the community through its various grant programs. It is an organization inherently committed to enriching the northern Chautauqua community and encouraging local philanthropy.
