Fredonia State hockey camp

The Fredonia State hockey program will be hosting a camp for boys and girls ages 5-12 from Aug. 25-28.

The camp runs from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Steele Hall Ice Arena.

There will also be a small ice games training camp for boys and girls ages 13-18. That camp also runs from Aug. 25-28 and takes place from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Fredonia Central Cross Country

The first team practice for the Fredonia cross country team is Monday, Aug. 18 at 4 p.m.

Runners should meet on Tinman Hill at the college. Practice will run from 4-6 p.m. on Monday and 9-11 a.m. the rest of the week.

Male and female athletes, in grades 7-12 are welcome to join the teams. New runners are welcome with no running experience necessary.

All athletes must fill out the brown/yellow health form and turn it into the nurse.

All athletes must have a current physical on file with the school. Any questions can be directed to Carol Zirkle at 785-0283.

Stericycle A’s 9, Joe Karnes Giants 1

Brian Gunnell went the distance on the hill for the A’s, allowing three hits while striking out five.

Tim Cowan and Dan Williamson had two hits each in the win while Bob Bankoski, Randy Stuart, Jim Quinn and Gib Stuart all chipped in a hit each.

Coughlan’s-Rookies Royals 1

Tim Cowan’s two-run double helped the A’s rally past the first-place Royals. The A’s scored three runs in the decisive sixth inning.

Mike Korzeniewski, Brian Gunnell and Doug Clark shared the mound in the win for the A’s, combining to allow four hits while striking out seven.

Tony Walker had a pair of hits for the Royals while also suffering the loss on the mound.

Veterans Health Equipment Braves 1-2

The A’s swept a double-header over the Braves, as Doug Clark had the eventual game-winning hit in the fourth inning of the first game and Brian Gunnell pitched the A’s to the win in the second game.

In the first game of the double-dip, Mike Korzeniewski picked up the win on the hill while Will Ramsey suffered the loss for the Braves. Bob Edwards chipped in two hits in a losing effort.

In the second game, Gunnell scattered six hits while striking out six to pick up the win.

The A’s were led at the plate by Clark, who had a home run to pace the offense. For the Braves, Jeff Galubski had three hits.
