Silver Creek Class of 1954 donates to ‘No Kill Center’ at 60-year reunion

The Silver Creek High School graduating class of 1954 celebrated its 60-year reunion on the weekend of Aug. 7.

Of the 44 graduating seniors, 21 were present.

Friday evening, they enjoyed a casual get-together at the home of Mrs. James Fox.

Saturday, they met at the Colony House Restaurant for dinner. Edward Newman gave the opening prayer and asked for a moment of remembrance for the class’s deceased members: Louis Valvo, Mary (Smith) Burgess, Robert Carline, Lewis Mead, Richard West, Ruby White and Charles Nicosia.

Frank Nappo who was class president for all four years of high school, welcomed all. Duane Sadler read letters from members who were not able to attend.

Newman spoke about class member Frank Peek, who owns San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society, No Kill Shelter. Peek has rescued over five thousand animals. Last winter was very difficult financially. The class decided to send a monetary donation to the shelter.

The group joined again at Native Pride for breakfast, and voted to have the next reunion in three years.
