Collage competitive dance teams qualify for Nationals Dance Team Championships

The Collage Performing Arts Center has qualified for the UDA Nationals Dance Team Championships for the past 14 years. This year all five Collage competitive dance teams – Diamond Girls, Dazzlers, Hot-Shots, and NY Majestic Junior and Senior teams – earned the honor of competing in Orlando, Florida at the National event held at Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports Center in February 2015. The competition is televised on ESPN. Only teams that compete and win at the regional competitions are permitted to compete at the UDA nationals. All five teams will compete in three separate divisions – pom pon, hip-hop and jazz dance.

The NY Majestic junior/senior dance teams have 21 team members in grades nine through 12. Sarah Hill serves as senior team captain. The senior team earned a first place finish in the compulsory jazz dance category, first place in the pom division and earned the qualifying points for a spot at the UDA national dance championships receiving the “Superior Team” trophy.

The Junior NY Majestic team had the highest score on the combination dance incorporating, jazz, pom, hip hop and high kick choreography into one routine. The Junior Majestic team earned the Choreography “Full Out” trophy for demonstrating outstanding dance technique.

The Hot-Shot and Dazzlers dance teams each have 10 competing team members and won first place in the junior high and youth jazz dance division. The team received special recognition for their technical skills.

The Diamond Girls youth dance team includes Kaitlin Hayes, Abby Roth, Ava Rukavina, Hannah Finch and Kara Vecchio. The team earned a first place bid and a superior rating.

Several dancers competed in the “All-American Individual Dancer” competition at Slippery Rock University. These dancers attended extra dance classes and performed jazz, pom, hip-hop and high kick dance skills in a routine judged by a panel of five professionals. Majestic senior team members Heather Dorler, Stefanie Briggs, Catie Roth, Alizee Dziduch, Hannah Koning, Melissa Berg and Jordan Gabel were selected as outstanding UDA All-Americans. The Senior UDA All-Americans received gold medals for their accomplishment and received an invitation to perform in the Macy’s Day Parade over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Several middle school students were selected as Junior All-American Dancers after attending extra dance classes and competing for the honor of Junior All-American. Hannah Fetterick, Kaylee Hamm, Maya Vecchio and Kassidy Incitto all received gold medals and were invited to participate in the Liberty Parade in Philadelphia on Thanksgiving Day.

The New York Majestic junior/senior dance team members were selected in June through team auditions. The Hot-Shot and Dazzlers dance team members received invitations based on skill level, attitude and practice attendance records. The teams perform at many area summer events including Mayville Fourth of July Celebration Parade, the Chautauqua County Fair Cheerleading and Dance Extravaganza and the Chautauqua County Fair Collage Talent Hour. The five teams will be performing at the upcoming Fredonia Farm Festival Parade and the Grape Festival Parade in Silver Creek in September.

All dance team members receive training at the Collage Performing Arts Center. For additional information about the teams, call Marci at 672-8678.
