Sheriff candidate Payne favors central police services
Chautauqua County Sheriff candidate Russell Payne recently released a press release on central police services.
Payne said in the release, “My name is Russell Payne and I am running for Chautauqua County Sheriff. I am a strong advocate of what is known as central police services, an idea strongly supported by the Chautauqua County Chiefs of Police Association. If elected sheriff, it would be my intent to create just such a system right here in Chautauqua County. This would mean that all Chautauqua County police agencies would fall under one umbrella which would be responsible for maximizing police services while, at the same time, avoiding the costly duplication of those services.
“This system would be overseen by a newly created Chautauqua County Law Enforcement Council comprised of the sheriff, the chiefs of police, and representatives from the county fire service. All of these agencies would be working together in an attempt to improve law enforcement and fire services throughout the county while, at the same time, avoiding the costly duplication of those services. Under this system, all county law enforcement and fire service components would have a voice and a choice in the future of those services.
This plan has been discussed and is supported by the Chautauqua County Chiefs of Police and is the keystone of my candidacy for Chautauqua County Sheriff.”
