BBB awards charity accreditation to WNY vets organization
BUFFALO – Better Business Bureau serving Upstate New York is proud to award charity accreditation to Veterans One-stop Center of WNY Inc. after the organization met BBB’s 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Charity accreditation is awarded through BBB’s Charity Review Program. The Veterans One-stop Center is the first veteran 501(c)(3) to become an accredited charity in Upstate New York. BBB has served VOC of WNY as a community partner since its 2013 opening, implementing the Military Line program to assist veterans and their families with education, employment and a variety of community outreach activities.
BBB’s Charity Review Program evaluates local charities against BBB Standards for Charity Accountability, which were developed to assist donors in making sound giving decisions and to foster public confidence in charitable organizations. BBB’s Charity Review offers unbiased and reliable information for both donors and charities operating in Upstate New York.
“We are delighted the Veterans One-stop Center has earned charity accreditation,” said Warren Clark, President of BBB serving Upstate New York. “People want to support our veterans and knowing they’re an Accredited Charity will provide assurance for donors and funders when they make a giving decision.”
“We view going through BBB’s charity review process as an investment in credibility. Meeting these standards strengthens the public confidence in our mission to improve the well-being of all Western New York veterans,” said Roger L. Woodworth, president and CEO of Veterans One-stop Center of WNY Inc. “The Veterans One-stop Center is especially thrilled to be the first veteran nonprofit in Upstate New York to become an accredited charity by BBB. Meeting BBB’s Charity Review Program’s rigorous evaluation criteria is an opportunity to objectively demonstrate the value we place in honest and ethical practices throughout our agency. The Veterans One-stop Center is proud to set the standard for Upstate New York’s Veterans not-for-profit community, and encourages other Veteran not-for-profit agencies and other not-for-profit stakeholders and partners to also invest in accreditation for their organizations.”
BBB’s Standards for Charity Accountability address charity finances, fundraising and informational materials, governance, effectiveness, donor privacy, and other aspects of charity operations.
BBB reports on charities that meet its standards, charities that do not meet its standards and charities that will not disclose their organization information to BBB.
