Fredonia drops Cassadaga Valley in non-league action

SINCLAIRVILLE – Emily Ludwig charted 16 kills as the Fredonia Lady Hillbillies (1-0) prevailed, 25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 25-22, over the Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars on Friday in non-league girls high school volleyball.

Casey Williams contributed in the win with seven kills and four aces while Makenzie Tarnowski added six kills and five aces for the winners. Andrea Smith finished with 25 assists for the Lady Hillbillies.

The Lady Cougars were led by Kylee Braymiller’s six kills, four digs and two aces. Ashley Repine had five blocks, four kills and two aces while Alyssa Hahn charted 13 assists in a losing effort. Hope Zielinski finished with three aces, two kills and a block for the Lady Cougars.

“I thought it was a good matchup being the first match,” Cassadaga Valley coach Jodi Hoffman said. “We had first-game jitters, but once we settled in we played much better. We have had nine days of practice. We face Fredonia again next week and it will be another close match.”
