Earl R. Train
Earl R. Train, age 82, of Silver Creek died Friday, August 29, 2014 at Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, NY.
He was born on September 30, 1931 in Silver Creek, NY, the son of the late E. Roy and Susan (Hardick) Train.
A lifelong area resident, Earl graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954, earning the National Defense Service and Good Conduct Medals. He married Mary Bechtel on October 9, 1954.
Earl retired from the South Buffalo Railway, where he worked as a railroad conductor. His memberships included the Silver Creek AmVets, social member of the Silver Creek VFW and a lifetime member of the Marine Corp League in Sheridan.
Earl was a musician who played the guitar and was the lead singer for the Fire Creek Band. Periodically, they would volunteer their time and play for the local nursing homes to entertain the residents. He was well-known for his great sense of humor; he enjoyed telling and hearing a good joke. He also was an avid Buffalo Sabres and Bills fan.
Earl is survived by a son, Ray (Kris) Train of Silver Creek, a daughter, Cindy (Steve) Degolier of Cassadaga, NY, eight grandchildren, Daniel, Christopher, Brian and Jacob Train, Craig (Nichole), Michael, Nick and Joshua Degolier, four great-grandchildren, Aryanna Bardo, Matthew, Nathan, and Jonathon Degolier, a sister, Doris Abbott of Dunkirk, NY, and his loving companion, Linda Rose of Silver Creek.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Train, two brothers, Donald “Chooch” and Ronald Train, and a sister, Frances Larrabee.
Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Ave., Silver Creek, NY, on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 6-9 p.m., where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Leamon officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Silver Creek Fire Department or the Forestville Ambulance.
